Al-Quran says
- “And proclaim unto mankind the pilgrimage. They will come unto thee on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every deep ravine” (Al-Hajj : 27)
- “And pilgrimage to the House is a duty unto Allah for mankind, for him who can find a way thither. As for him who disbelievsth, lo; Allah is independent of creatures.” (Al-Imran : 97)
Some saying of the Prophet (PBUH) about Hajj
- Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah was asked: what action is most commendable? He said: faith in Allah and His Messenger. He was asked what is next? He said: Jihad in the way of Allah. He was asked; what is next? He said Hajj, which is accepted. (Bukhari-2391)
- Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah has said, “whosoever performs the Hajj for the sake of Allah without talking immodestly or acting wickedly, he returns (free from sins) as on the day his mother gave him birth.” (Bukhari : 2393/3)
- Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah has said, “an Umrah is an expiation for sins committed between it and the next, but a Hajj which is accepted has no less a reward than Paradise.” (Bukhari : 2394/4)
- Ibn-e-Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah has said, “an Umrah in Ramzan is equal to Hajj.” (Bukhari : 23959/5)
- Ibn-e-Abbas reported that a man came to the Holy Prophet and said: My sister had made a vow to perform Hajj, but she died. The Holy prophet asked; would you pay a debt supposing she owed one? He said; yes. The Holy Prophet said “ well pay the debt due to Allah, because it is the one which most deserves to be paid.” (Bukhari : 2398/8)
- Hazrat Aa`isha (RDA) reported: I saught the Holy Prophet’s permission to take part in Jihad. He said, “The Jihad of you women is the Hajj.” (Bukhari : 2400/10)
Hazrat Ali (RDA) reported that the Messenger of Allah said; “one who possess means of food and other expenses including conveyance, yet he eludes Hajj; he shall die as Jew or Christian because God Almighty has ordained Hajj as obligatory for one who can afford. (Tirmizi).- Ibn-e-Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah said; “one who forsake Hajj and Nikah is not from among us.”
- Ibn-e-Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah has said; “whoever intends to perform the Hajj he should hasten to do so.” (Abu Dawood 2409/19)
- Hazrat Ibn-e-Masood (RDA) reported that the Messenger of Allah has said; “make Hajj and Umrah follow one another closely because they remove poverty and sins as cauldron removes impurities from iron, gold and silver and a Hajj which is accepted gets no less reward than paradise.” (Tirmizi)
- Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RDA) reported that the Holy Prophet said; “those who perform the Hajj and those who perform Umrah are the guest of Allah. If they supplicate Him, He responds to them and if they seek Him forgiveness, He forgives them.” (Ibn-e-Maja)
- Hazrat Ibn-e-Umar (RDA) reported that a man asked the Prophet of Allah: what is the description of a pilgrim? He said; “disheveled and unperfumed.” Another got up and asked; O Messenger of Allah which part of the Hajj is most beneficial? He said; “raising the voice in Talbiyah and shedding the blood of sacrificial animal.” Another got up and asked; O Messenger of Allah, what is meant of Sabeel? He said; “Provision and means of conveyance.”
- Hazrat Ibn-e-Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah heard a man saying “Labbaik on behalf of Shubrumah.” He asked: who is Shubrumah? The man replied, a brother of mine or a relative of mine. He asked; “Have you performed the Hajj on your own behalf?” He replied: No. The Prophet said, “perform the Hajj on your behalf, then perform it on behalf of Shubramah.” (Ibn-e-Maja, Abu Dawood)
- Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RDA) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah say, “the guest of Allah are three: the warrior, the one who performs the Hajj and the one who performs the Umrah.
- Hazrat Ibn-e-Umar (RDA) reported that the Messenger of Allah has said; “when you meet one who has performed the Hajj, greet him, shake hands with him and tell him to ask forgiveness for you before he enters his house because he has been forgiven by Allah.” (Ahmad : 2423/33)
